Sambalpur: Stuck in poverty, a visually impaired B.Ed. student reportedly borrowed Rs 40,000 from a patient for his study promising the latter to sell his kidney.
While the state government assists marginalised people under different programmes for their education, the heart-rending story of Kush Vaena of Telipali village in Birmaharajpur area in Sonepur district will leave everyone shocked.
According to reports, Kush, a visually impaired, is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) at the Parshuram Mishra Institute of Advanced Study In Education (PMIASE) in Sambalpur. He had taken Rs 40,000 in advance from a kidney patient with a promise to sell his kidney to continue his study.
However, the patient died, and the debt-ridden student managed to repay the amount by begging on the streets.
Reports said that Kush had lost his parents in childhood. Later, he lost his vision after he suffered cerebral palsy in 2019.
The patient, who had given him the advance amount to receive kidney from him, was the only hope for the student. Following his death, Kush landed in complex situation for his survival and to continue his education.
"Now I have no money or asset for my study. Therefore, I very often opt for begging and singing on the streets for livelihood," he said.
Moreover, Kush, who wants to be teacher, faced difficulty in appearing in ongoing B.Ed. examination. His performance in the test is stated to be not good due to absence of writer.
"I came out of the examination hall by writing only my name and roll number on the sheet as there is no writer for me. If I get monetary assistance for study and a writer to write in the examination, my dream to become a teacher will come true," he said.
