Bhubaneswar: Couple of days after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed Odisha Police not to let offenders of domestic violence go scot-free, the Women and Child Development Department today introduced a WhatsApp number for the victims of domestic violence to report cases during the lockdown period.
Official sources said the department’s WhatsApp number is 7205006039. The department has already set up a helpline number 181.
It is believed that instances of domestic violence will rise during the lockdown period in the state.
Odisha DGP Abhay yesterday directed cops to consider domestic violence cases on a high priority.
To lodge a complaint, the victims are need not visit police station as the complainant can call the Helpline telephone number of police station and district control room. After receiving the call, police will reach the spot/home to collect complaints/FIR and take necessary action.
Also, victims of domestic violence can approach police through Odisha Police Citizen Portal or Sahayata Mobile app.
