Odisha weather alert: Deep Depression over bay likely with ‘High’ chances of cyclogenesis

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over central Bay of Bengal has turned into a well-marked low pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood. It is very likely to move northwestwards during next 24 hours and move north-northeastwards thereafter towards West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts across northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during subsequent 48 hours, the Regional Meteorological Centre forecasted today.

The system is likely to concentrate into a depression by tomorrow and further into a deep depression during the subsequent 24 hours, it said.

On the other hand, the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ‘High’ probability of cyclogenesis over Bay of Bengal within the next 72 hours.

Under its influence, several districts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall till October 23.

October 21: Orange Warning- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam and Gajapati.

Yellow Warning- Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak Balasore, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

October 22: Orange Warning- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Yellow Warning- Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.

October 23: Yellow Warning- Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.
