Bhubaneswar: Impact of the approaching Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm FANI is evident as thunderstorm and lightning alert has been issued by the Meteorological Centre here, today.

Moderate thunderstorm and lightning is likely in areas such as Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Nayagarh, Puri and Rayagada, as per the latest weather forecast.

Moderate rainfall with wind speed of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph will also lash these places.

Such weather condition is likely to prevail between 2 pm and 5 pm today, according to the weather bulletin.

‘FANI’ over Bay of Bengal is 360 km away from south-southwest of Puri and is likely to cross Odisha coast around the afternoon of May 3.

As per the India Meteorological Department, the wind speed at the place of landfall will be 170-180 kmph gusting to 200 kmph.
