Bhubaneswar: Due to a Depression that formed earlier and is gradually weakening, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha during next 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar said today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated, “The Depression over north Chhattisgarh and its neighbourhood moved west-northwest wards with a speed of 17 km/ph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of 3 August 2023 over the same region near latitude 23.5°N and longitude 83.1°E, about 40 Km north-northwest of Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) and 160 Km southsoutheast of Sidhi (East Madhya Pradesh). It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southeast Uttar Pradesh and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area during next 12 hours. The Monsoon Trough at mean sea level now passes through Amritsar, Karnal, Meerut, Hamirpur, center of Depression over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood, Balasore and thence eastwards to Northeast Bay of Bengal. Southwest Monsoon has been active over Odisha.”

The highest maximum temperature of 30.0oC was recorded at Chhatrapur and the lowest minimum temperature of 20.0oC was recorded at Nuapada in the plains of Odisha.

Under the influence of the above system and due to a strong pressure gradient, strong surface wind speed reaching 20 to 25 km/ph is very likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast and adjoining North Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into Sea along and off Odisha Coast and adjoining North Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours.
