Odisha weather update: Rainfall likely in interior parts today

Bhubaneswar: With onset of southwest monsoon several parts of interior Odisha are likely to experience rainfall today.

Though heavy rainfall is not on the cards for Odisha, but the interior parts including Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Balangir and Nuapada districts may experience moderate rainfall under influence of cyclonic circulation tilting southwestwards.

“The monsoon has covered entire Odisha. The low pressure area over Jharkhand and adjoining areas of north Chhattisgarh and Odisha now lies over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood. The associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. The trough at mean sea level from west Rajasthan to north Bay of Bengal across Madhya Pradesh and the center of low pressure area over interior Odisha and adjoining areas of Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh persists,” said Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist LD Mohapatra.

Yesterday, the heavy rainfall warning was issued for the interior Odisha particularly, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Phulbani, Malkangiri and Kalahandi districts. The moderate rainfall is likely in these districts by afternoon, he said.
