Odisha weightlifter Ravi Kumar fails dope test, provisionally suspended

Bhubaneswar: Ace Odisha weightlifter Katulu Ravi Kumar tested positive for a banned substance and has been provisionally suspended for Anti Doping Rule Violation, the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) said.

His sample was collected during the 71st Men Senior National Weightlifting Championship in Visakhapatnam in February.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist from Berhampur tested positive for anabolic steroid, reports said.

On the other hand, Ravi Kumar said he had been consuming the particular supplement for a couple of years and it was banned by NADA in January, this year only. ‘I will appeal to NADA to minimise the ban period,” he said.
