Odisha woman burns herself after setting toddler on fire. Here’s why

Angul: Anger could lead to disaster and it is hence proved when a woman burnt herself after setting her 3-year-old daughter on fire here yesterday.

The woman is identified as Anita Seth (26), wife of Jitu Seth of Gobindapur village under Parjang police limits in Angul District. She set her toddler Lipsa Seth on fire following a heated argument with her husband on Saturday.

While Anita is battling for life, her daughter died at a hospital on Sunday.

According to reports, Anita, the mother of two children, was under trauma following the squabble with her husband Jitu over some issue on Saturday. While Jitu went outside home with his son following the disturbance, Anita took an extreme step out of anger by closing the door. She poured kerosene on her daughter, who was sleeping during the period, and set her afire. Later, she burnt herself.

The villagers rescued both mother and daughter in critical condition and rushed them to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. As their condition was critical, they were shifted to the SCB Medical College & Hospital, where Lipsa succumbed to burn injuries on Sunday.

Till the last report came in, Anita was battling for life at the hospital.
