Odisha: Woman dies due to electrocution; family alleges neglect of Tata Power

Dasarathpur: A woman was killed after she came in contact with a live wire when it snagged and fell on her at Itapada of Kamaradiha panchayat under Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district.

The deceased was identified as 66-year-old Laxmipriya Barik, the wife of late Biswanath who belonged to the village.

According to a source, Laxmipriya was sweeping the front of her house in the morning at around 5.30 am when the mishap took place. An overhead LT line snagged and fell on her leading to her death. The woman died on the spot.

“Such incidents are occurring repeatedly in this area,” some locals alleged.

“Despite bringing it to the knowledge of the Electricity Department several times in the past days, our demand to change the existing LT lines to cable lines is not being met,” the locals fumed.

“A fatal mishap occurred once again due to the apathetic attitude of SDO (Electrical) and junior engineer of Tata Power, a DISCOM (distribution company). We demand an early restoration of power supply and installation of cable lines,” the locals along with Laxmipriya’s family stated.

The irate residents demanded adequate compensation to the deceased’s next of kin.
