Odisha woman found dead with throat slit; dowry death alleged

Jajpur: In tragic incident, a woman has been allegedly killed by her in-laws over dowry demand in Gunduripada village of Binjharpur in Odisha’s Jajpur district today.

The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Rita Dalai, a resident of Hirapur village under Susua panchayat and wife of Digambar Dalai.

According to reports, Digambar Dalai is employed in Gujarat and stays away from home most of the time. Rita, alleging negligence at the hands of her husband and harassment by her co-sister and mother-in-law left her in-law’s house and was living with her family for some time. However, a village meeting was conducted to resolve the matter and Rita returned to the house of her husband.

Rita’s father has alleged that her mother-in-law and so-sister conspired against her and slit Rita’s throat, with the help of another relative.

A case has been registered in Binjharpur police station and the cops have launched a probe into the matter. The accused are currently absconding.
