Bhubaneswar: A Non Resident Odia (NRO) woman allegedly committed suicide in front of her two children an apartment at Bhagat Singh Chowk in Pune. The incident that occurred on October 26 came to fore after a complaint was lodged at Sangvi police station in Pune by family members of the deceased.
A suicide note recovered from the spot reveals that the woman identified as Rashmita Dash took the extreme step due to torture by her husband, who works at a private company in Pune.
Sources said Rashmita, a resident of Khuntuni area in Cuttack, had married one Rajendra of Banki in July, 2012. On October 26, when Rajendra was in office, Rashmita hanged herself from a ceiling fan of their house in front of her 11-month-old son and 6-year-old daughter.
In the suicide note, Rashmita alleged that she had been tortured both mentally and physically by her husband since last one year. Acting on a complaint lodged by Rasmita’s brother, Sangvi police have begun an investigation into the incident.
“They were staying in Gujarat first and later shifted to Pune following transfer of Rajendra. For the last one year, the couple used to fight frequently over trivial issues. But there was nothing related to dowry,” said Rashmita’s father Bharat Chandra Dash.
