Odisha: Woman Junior Revenue Assistant dismissed from service after conviction in bribery case

Bhubaneswar: A woman Junior Revenue Assistant at the collectorate of Odisha’s Angul district was dismissed from service today following her conviction in a bribery case.

Pankajini Biswal, Junior Revenue Assistant at the Collectorate of Angul, was dismissed from government services as per the provision of OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962.

Biswal had been convicted by the Special Vigilance Judge at Angul on May 12, 2023 in connection with a bribery case.

The Vigilance department had filed chargesheet against Biswal under the relevant Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from a person for processing files in two mutation cases for issuance of land records.

The Special Vigilance Court had sentenced Biswal to three years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting her in the bribery case.

The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 on Biswal. Non-payment of the penalty amount would invite additional imprisonment for two months, said the vigilance judge.

Following Biswal’s conviction, the Vigilance department had informed the competent authority at Angul Collectorate to initiate appropriate action in this regard.
