Phulbani: In a highly shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her 4-year-old daughter and buried the body in a forest near Gutingia village under Sarangada police limits in Odisha's Kandhamal district on Saturday.

According to reports, accused Padmini Dandia (23) took her daughter Surekha to a nearby forest on the fateful day and strangulated the baby to death. The woman then buried the body at the spot and returned home.

The matter came to fore after the father of Padmini suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with the police. Cops later exhumed the body and recovered it.

The accused was detained at the police station for questioning. The reason behind her extreme act was yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered in this connection under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC.

As per the complainant, a dispute was prevailing between Padmini and her husband over the birth of the girl, following which she was residing at her father's place.
