Odisha woman slaps hubby in public for harassing girl students

Malkangiri: A woman slapped her husband in full public view as the latter is accused of sexually harassing girl students at an upper primary school in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. The matter came to light after the video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.

The teacher is accused of sexually harassing girl students of Project Upper Primary School at MV 71 under Kalimela block in the district.

As per reports, the accused identified as Manjeet Bain sexually harassed girl students and intimidated them not to disclose anything to anyone. Besides, he allegedly threatened the victims of dire consequences if they reveal it to anyone.

After going through mental trauma, the girls mustered courage to share their horrific ordeal with their parents owing which the matter was reported to the school.

A parent-teacher meeting was convened in the school in the presence of Cluster Resource Coordinator (CRC) and accused’s wife.

Half-way into the meeting, the wife of the accused rushed to her husband and slapped him continuously. The act was recorded in a mobile phone and circulated on social media platforms.

Some students of the upper primary school in the tribal-dominated district have stopped coming to the institution post the shameful incident.

“The parents of the two victims are not sending their daughters to the school fearing ignominy. If the matter spreads, the parents fear that it would be difficult to marry them off,” said Deepak Mandal, president of Project Upper Primary School.

“He touches inappropriately and uses filthy language. He also threatens the girls,” an inmate of the school alleged.

After the incident, the Block Education Officer (BEO) was intimated owing which the District Education Officer (DEO) is probing into the matter.

“Disciplinary action would be initiated against the teacher if the allegations are proved,” District Education Officer Prashant Kumar Mohapatra said.

The accused, however, dismissed the allegations of misconduct.

“I beg apology if I have done anything wrong unintentionally. To the best of my knowledge, I am not involved in any immoral act,” Manjeet Bain expressed.
