Bhubaneswar: A woman, who was allegedly abducted from a posh area in Bhubaneswar yesterday, had in fact staged her own kidnapping drama with her boyfriend to extort a hefty amount from her brother.

Commissionerate police revealed it following the arrest of two accused persons including the woman's boyfriend. Both the accused -- Devi Lal Ola and Pradeep Kumar Ola -- are residents of Rajasthan state.

According to reports, Smrutirekha Pangi was staying with her parents at Trident Galaxy Apartment in the Chandaka area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

As per the allegation, the woman was kidnapped from Satsang Vihar near Vani Vihar on Thursday and the kidnapped demanded Rs 1 crore ransom for her release.

Acting on the complaint registered at the Chandaka police station, a special team was formed to trace the woman and found her along with two accused persons in Nayagarh area.

During interrogation, the accused duo revealed that the woman had plotted her own abduction to extort huge amount from her brother, who is a online trader. She had also planned to marry Pradeep after getting money.

The accused persons confessed their crime to the police, informed Police Commissioner Sanjeev Panda today.

"I came with Pradeep to Odisha on June 18. We stayed in a hotel. Pradeep and Smrutirekha had known each other through Instagram. They were in contact in last 8-10 months. After we reached Bhubaneswar, Pradeep went to meet his girlfriend. She insisted me and Pradeep to stage a fake kidnapping and in return they will get huge money following which she and Pradeep will tie the knot and get settled here. She told that her brother is a stock market trader and runs a YouTube channel 'Power of Stocks'. He will give money to release his sister. As per the plan, Pradeep called her brother on WhatsApp and demanded Rs 1 crore ransom, informing him that his sister has been kidnapped. He agreed to pay money and talked with his sister. The next day, the police arrested us," said Devi Lal Ola, the accused.

Another accused person, who became victim of his girlfriend's kidnapping conspiracy, confessed the crime to police.

"I had met Smrutirekha through Instagram. I was looking for a job. We started talking with each other, exchanged our phone numbers. Recently, she called me and asked me to come to Bhubaneswar and proposed for marriage. When I told her about my miserable conditions, she told me that her brother earns a lot through online trading. She assured that she will make monetary arrangement for me. After I reached here, she made a plan of her own kidnapping and promised to get married after getting money. As per the plan, we did same. We called her brother and asked for money to release his sister. However, we were caught by the police," said Pradeep.
