Odisha woman succumbs to burn injuries, case registered against jilted lover

Cuttack: The married woman who was allegedly set afire by a spurned lover died at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack this evening while undergoing treatment.

The 45-year-old woman had suffered serious burn injuries after the accused Dambarudhar Das (45) poured petrol her and set her on fire at Nila Pani Tanki Basti under Unit 8 area behind CBI office here last Wednesday.

The deceased Subasini Nayak initially rushed to Capital Hospital here and later shifted to Burns’ Ward of SCB Medical College with nearly 95 percent burn injuries.

On the same day, Nayapalli police had arrested the accused from Baramunda bus stand while he was trying to flee and sent him to judicial custody as we had reported here.

Today, the local police registered a murder case against Das.

Nayak, a mother of two, had been resisting Das’ advances for almost a year leading to the tragic end.
