Baripada: Inspector-in Charge of Jharpokharia police station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the death of a woman teacher of Rairangpur College, informed DGP-in charge Satyajit Mohanty today.

Sarat Kumar Mahalik, the police official, was yesterday transferred following the death of the lecturer. Similarly, Sub-Inspector of the police station, Prashant Swain was also suspended yesterday.

The deceased woman, who had lodged an FIR at Jharpokharia police station on October 30 alleging that she had been raped by a distant relative during her visit to Keonjhar on October 27, was found hanging inside a room of the women’s hostel of the college.

It is being alleged that police didn’t take any action after the complaint, for which the woman was under mental stress and later committed suicide. However, the accused was yesterday arrested from Cuttack after her death.
