Odisha writes to CBSE seeking extension for JEE Main application date

In view of the poor rate of online enrolment of Odisha students for JEE Main examination, Odisha Skill Development and Technical Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh has written to the  Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) seeking extension of the last date of submission of application form.

In his letter to CBSE Chairman Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi yesterday, Singh explained that only 18,873 candidates from the state have registered online till date as compared to the 49,000 students last year after Aadhaar number was made mandatory for the JEE Main examination this year.

Since a large number of students are yet to possess the card, an extension of the last date of submission of application form would benefit the students, argued Singh.

“With an extension to the last date of submission of application form, a lot more students will be able to register for the JEE Main examination. This will not only benefit those who are likely to receive their Aadhar number shortly, but also those who already nave a card but need corrections in it,” said Singh.

In a related development, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi told reviewed the progress on Aadhaar card registration in the state.

According to Singh, the State Government plans to set up Aadhaar camps in schools so as to ensure ease of Aadhaar registration for students.
