Odisha youth arrested by Delhi Police for ‘theft’ escapes

Balasore: A youth, who was arrested by Delhi Police on theft charge, escaped from the custody here in the district today.

The accused identified as Karunakar Das, a native of Raghunathpur village, gave the cops a slip at Balasore Railway Station while he was being taken to Delhi.

He is accused of stealing diamond and silver jewelleries worth over Rs. 10 lakh from his employer’s house in Delhi .

According to reports, Karunakar was working as a domestic help in the house of a businessman namely Ravindra Kumar Khari at Adarsh Nagar area in New Delhi.

He allegedly stole diamond and silver ornaments worth more than Rs. 10 lakh from the businessman’s residence on June 4 and went missing. Suspecting the domestic help’s absence at house, the employer registered an FIR against the youth at Adarsh Nagar Police Station.

Based on the complaint, a three-member team of Delhi Police visited Odisha and with help of Soro police they arrested Karunakar yesterday.

During the interrogation, the accused had confessed to crime before the police and said that he had sold the theft items in Cuttack.
