Odisha: Youth arrested for impregnating minor girl on pretext of marriage

Kandhamal: A 21-year-old youth was arrested for impregnating a minor girl on the pretext of marriage at Nuasahi in G Udaygiri area of Kandhamal district today.

The G Udaygiri police arrested the youth identified as Alfans Nayak alias Riku after registering a case under Sections 376 (2) and 376 (3) of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act against him.

Sources said the accused was in love relationship with a minor girl of the same locality and had been maintaining physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage. When the minor girl became pregnant, Riku started avoiding her. The girl narrated her plight before her family members, who discussed with the youth’s family for a solution. Later, when a meeting held over the issue was not conclusive, the girl’s family lodged a complaint at G Udaygiri police station.

The police registered a case and sent the girl to district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Phulbani for a medical examination. Further investigation is on into the incident, sources added.
