Odisha youth arrested for killing lecturer for mobile phone

Sambalpur: Cracking the death of a lecturer, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house here on September 6, Sambalpur police arrested the accused youth yesterday.

Worth mentioning, one Hrudananda Pradhan, who worked as a lecturer in Mura College, was found in a pool of blood inside his house on September 6. Following the incident, police had begun an investigation into the death of the 46-year-old teacher, who hailed from Balianali in Deogarh district.

Yesterday, the police arrested the accused identified as Dukhanasan Bag. During interrogation, the accused confessed to his the crime.

In his confession, Bag said he had been to Hrudananda’s house and was having a conversation with him, when he saw the latter’s mobile phone and got attracted to it. His greed for the mobile phone made him attack the teacher with a stick from behind. Bag later strangulated him to death and fled the spot with the mobile phone.

As part of investigation, the cops laid a trap and tapped the mobile of the deceased. When the accused inserted his sim card in the mobile phone, police traced his location and later nabbed him.

“The lecturer was preparing food when Dukhanashan had his eyes on the mobile phone of the former. He latter attacked him with a stick four times and later strangulated him to death.The accused has confessed to his crime,”said Additional SP Sambalpur Pradeep Kumar Mohapatra.
