According to reports, the victim was waiting for her brother at Jaydev Vihar Square late on Saturday night when the accused identified as Kshitish Chandra Padhi made obscene gestures mistaking her to be a sex worker. Moments later, her brother reached the spot and they went home. However, the accused followed them to their house.

While the woman’s brother was parking his bike, the accused–a native of Basudevpur in Bhadrak district– grabbed her from behind. On raising an alarm, Padhi was overpowered and handed over to the local police.

According to police, the woman is a member of BJP. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi had come to Odisha two days ago, the lady along with other party workers had gone there to welcome him. It got late and a friend dropped her at Jaydev Vihar at 12:30 pm. When the victim was waiting for her brother, the incident happened.
