Bhubaneswar: Young men and women in Odisha have univocally raised the pitch to end violence against women for social media platforms are abuzz with activity as part of United Nation's fortnight-long campaign - UNiTE.

The initiative, which began on November 25, is observed as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and shall go on till December 10, coinciding with the Human Rights Day.publive-image

UNiTE is managed by United Nations Women and had declared November 25 as 'Orange Day' and thus, takes this logo forward.

The social media users in Odisha took to various platforms to share their views on the issue. Here's what people wrote on their Facebook timelines:

The young minds are of the view that the objectives of sustainable development goals (SDMs) can't be achieved unless gender parity is achieved. While violence against women is not so alarmingly high in Odisha, the peace-loving state witnessed some blood-curdling cases in the past. Sample these: Primary school teacher Itishree Pradhan and acid attack survivor Pramodini Roul.

Worth mentioning, Supreme Court recently closed the Itishree Pradhan case as CBI failed to nab the culprits. Another case that thrilled the souls of netizens was of Pramodini Roul, an acid attack survivor. Odisha police arrested the prime accused, Santosh Bedanta two days ago, along with Biswajit Dalsinghray, who is reported to have helped him in the acid attack. Promodini was 16 when she became the victim of this heinous crime and has been struggling to survive ever since. More power to this brave heart from our state!, the netizens rallied.

There still are cases unregistered and criminals running free. Women are beaten to death, attacked, molested, abused, abducted and yet, they often remain quiet for the fear of being mocked and being abused again. It's time we fight and shout out for our rights because if we don't, no one else will, they added.
