Odisha youth climbs atop mobile tower for tubewell

Nuapada: In a unique way of protest, a youth in Nuapada district climbed atop a telecom tower demanding for a tubewell.

According to reports, Hemant Rana, a resident of Gharadhara village under Khariar Block in Nuapada district, ascended the mobile tower, installed in the village, to mount pressure on local authorities to allow the villagers for access to a tubewell on premises of the Anganwadi centre.

Source said that there are three tubewells in the village, of which two contain fluoride in water. Therefore, the villagers had been using another tubewell installed on campus of the Anganwadi centre for drinking water.

Recently, Anganwadi workers restricted the villagers from using the tubewell. Reacting to it, Hemant staged protest by climbing atop the mobile tower demanding to keep the Anganwadi premises open for the villagers to access the tubewell.

The youth alighted from the mobile tower after assurance from the locals.
