Odisha: Youth critical after being shot at ahead of wedding day

Khallikote: A man was critically injured in a firing reportedly by a miscreant today evening, ahead of his wedding in Manikapur village under Khallikote police limits in Ganjam district.

The man, Jitendra Barik from Bhaliajhara village visited his aunt’s place in Manikapura following a family quarrel. He was scheduled to marry his maternal uncle’s daughter at Rahanadebi Temple tomorrow.

When Jitendra was talking over mobile phone in front of his aunt’s place at around 8.30 PM, a miscreant came from behind and fired a bullet at him. Jitendra fell on the ground in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, the miscreant escaped from the spot in the darkness.

Family members of Jitendra rushed him to the Khallikote Community Health Centre. Later he was shifted to the MKCG hospital in Berhampur after his health condition deteriorated. Hospital sources said condition of the youth is stable at present.

Earlier in the day, a youth was killed and another critically injured in a bomb explosion at Nirmaljhar Chhak under Khallikote police limits. The incident occurred when the two youths carrying a bomb on a motorcycle fell on the ground at Nirmaljhar Chhak.
