Cuttack: A youth identified as Sudhanshu Bhushan Behera was arrested today by Cantonment police in Cuttack for allegedly duping a girl of gold ornaments. The victim identified as Kalyani Behera works as a sales girl in a medicine shop at Patia locality of Bhubaneswar.
Sudhanshu belongs to Kalyani Nagar locality under Madhupatana police limits of Cuttack.
According to a police source, the youth previously met the girl on a matrimonial site and then became familiar with her. The accused was a customer of the medicine shop and gradually he developed a close relationship with the girl. At a point in time, she was in need of money and had asked the youth to help her out of the financial crisis. The youth advised her to him her gold ornaments to keep as mortgage with somebody and arrange the needed money from the lender.
Accordingly, after gaining Kalyani’s confidence, the accused had taken her gold ornaments and allegedly cheated her. Even to the extent, the youth did not keep any contact with the girl and rather went incommunicado thereafter, the senior official added.
Cantonment police recovered the gold ornaments from the possession of the accused. He was later forwarded to court. Police have been verifying whether the youth has any criminal antecedents. He had introduced himself as an employee of the Income Tax department.
Police have registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched a detailed probe into the alleged crime, which is underway, Additional DCP Anil Kumar Mishra expressed.
The youth duped a gold chain, an earring, and a ring weighing around 30 grams, the cop said.
