Odisha youth hacked to death by father, 3 brothers; All get lifer

Nabarangpur: The Court of District & Sessions Judge here today sentenced a man and his three sons to life imprisonment for killing his youngest son over property dispute in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, three years ago.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convicts. They will have to undergo additional imprisonment of one year in the case of non-payment of the fine amount.

The murder incident had taken place at B Gumunduli village under Kosagumuda police limits in the district in April 2019.

According to reports, deceased Padman Nayak was crushing sugarcane on the fateful day when his father Damodar and three elder brothers Premnath, Sridhar and Shyamsundar approached him to resolve the dispute.

The matter took a violent turn as a fight ensued between them. Padman sustained critical injuries in the clash and was rushed to the Kotpad Hospital, where he was declared dead.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Padman’s wife Dasami, Kosagumuda police had registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC and arrested the four accused.

Adjudicating the case, Judge Sanjeev Dubey pronounced the quantum of punishment. As many as 22 witnesses were examined during the trial.
