Odisha youth held for posting controversial remarks against PM, Uttar Pradesh CM on social media

Salepur: A youth from Cuttack district was arrested today by the Uttar Pradesh Police on charges of spreading fake information and controversial remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad on social media.

A team of Singhabali police from Uttar Pradesh along with the Salepur police raided a house in Kusambee village and arrested Sayad Hasan Ahmed under Sections 507, 504, 153A and 124A of IPC.

As per reports, an activist of the Bagapatha district unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Kuldip Panchal had been receiving threatening from unknown phone calls for past few days. Panchal, a resident of Singhabli in Bagapatha, came across controversial remarks against the Prime Minister, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and different organizations such as RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Gorakshak on social media.

Panchal then lodged a complaint at the Singhabali police station alleging the unknown caller’s involvement in spreading the controversial remarks on the social media. After registering a case, the police launched a probe and tracked the phone number from which Panchal was receiving threatening calls. Following an investigation, the police came to know the calls were being made by Sayad Hasan Ahmed of Kusambee village in Salepur.

A team of Singhabali Police reached Salepur today and raided the youth’s house along with the local police. Later the youth was arrested.

Sources said Ahmed will be forwarded to the Salepur court tomorrow. The Singhbali police is likely to seek his remand in the court, the sources added.
