Odisha youth held for spreading misinformation about coronavirus

Rayagada: The police today arrested a youth for allegedly spreading fake news about outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Rayagada district. After registering a case, police arrested the accused, Satyanarayan Samal alias Dipu (32) and a resident of Ambadola.

Satyanarayan on his Facebook post said that one man who had arrived from Kerala was infected with coronavirus and has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital, Rayagada. Based on a directive issued by Rayagada Collector Pramod Kumar Behera, police carried out a verification and found that the news was completely fake.

A police official said the accused will be forwarded to the court.

As per the government guidelines, no one can spread false information or rumours about coronavirus.
