Betanoti Sadar: A youth was killed on the spot in a freak road mishap at an overbridge near a crossroad on SH-18 under Baisinga police limits in Mayurbhanj district, when he was returning from his sister’s house along with one more person by riding a motorcycle today afternoon.

The other youth travelling on the motorcycle sustained grievous injuries in the fatal incident.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Makara Soren, the son of late Masau Soren who belonged to Ramnagar village near Nichuapada under Baripada Sadar police limits in the district. The injured was identified as Bailu Mahanta, the son of Gadadhar Mahanta from the same village.

According to a police source, the youths met with an accident as the motorcycle (bearing registration number OR-11 L-3826) on which they were travelling skidded off the road due to some reason. The duo dashed against a roadside barricade as the rider lost control of the vehicle.

Some locals rescued the injured in critical condition and sent him to hospital for treatment.

On being informed by the locals, Baisinga police reached the accident site and seized the vehicle. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe, the official said.
