Odisha: Youth’s body found hanging from Lover’s verandah; family alleges murder

Keonjhar: A youth’s body was reportedly found hanging from the verandah of his lover’s house in Kandra village under Bileipada police outpost of Keonjhar district today.

The deceased has been identified as Kamalakant Khanda of Mahadeijoda under Keonjhar Sadar police limits.

Kamalakant’s father Golak Bihari Khanda has alleged that his son was killed by the girl’s family members, who hanged the body to give it a suicide angle. A complaint in this regard was lodged with the police.

According Golak Bihari, Kamalakanta had developed a relationship with the girl around one and a half years ago. The girl’s family members had been opposing her relationship with Kamalakant, who was from a different caste.

The girl’s family members had also threatened to kill Kamalakant, said the complaint.

Kamalakant had gone to the girl’s village two days ago. But, he had left his bike there after it was punctured during the return journey.

Kamalakant went to the girl’s village yesterday evening to bring back his bike. However, he could not return home due to heavy rain. His body was found hanging from the girl’s verandah today morning, said the complaint.

The police have registered a case as per the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father and sent the body for postmortem.  “We are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the exact reason behind the youth’s death,” said a police officer.
