Odisha youths tortured in Saudi Arabia, kin seek dist admin’s intervention for rescue

Over 24 youths from Ganjam district were allegedly tortured by a company in Saudi Arabia and did not get their payments in the past four months. The families of the victims requested the district administration to intervene in the matter for their rescue.

According to reports, the victims including Anil Pal, Gobinda Dakua, Lochan Behera, Prahallad Muduli, Umashankar Sahoo, Sudam Chandra Sahoo, Ganesh Patro, Bruhaspati Madi, Harikrushna Kola, Pedani Tarasu, Gopal Silbhasa and Basudev Silbhasa of Ganjam had applied for job in Saudi Arabia five months ago. Each person had paid over Rs 60,000 to the broker for the job.

The candidates were taken to Ichhapuram from where they were brought to Chennai alluring them of job in Saudi Arabia. They were recruited for Riyadh-based Aamal Al-Muqawil, a contracting company, in the country. The youths suffered after working with the company for few days. Even, they did not get salary for their work.

A case has been filed with Ichhapur police station in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh after Lochan Behera and Anil Pal informed their kin on phone about torment in Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, victims’ families approached a legislator in Ichhapuram about the incident.
