Bhubaneswar: Woman athlete Anupama Swain bagged gold medal for the country in Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship held at Alleppey in Kerala.
Anupama secured the top position lifting 132.5 kg in squat, 65 kg in bench press and 127.5 kg in deadlift, with an overall of 325 kg in women's 52 kg category.
She also won gold in personal squat and silver in bench press.
While Singapore’s L Lee clinched silver, A Koyaka of Philippines bagged bronze both lifting a total of 317.5kg each at the event.
However, another powerlifter Pradip Patra, who had participated at the championship, missed to get a medal finishing fifth in the men’s 66kg category.
Anupama hails from Keonjhar district. She is currently working in Odisha Police as the woman constable. She is also an medalist in karate and mixed martial arts.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and DGP RP Sharma congratulated Anupama for success.
