Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park opened for tourists

The Bhitarkanika National Park under Rajnagar Wildlife Division in Odisha’s Kendrapara district was opened for the tourists this morning.

The Forest department had closed the park from January 1 to 12 to conduct bird and estuarine crocodile census, said Kedar Swain, DFO, Rajnagar Wildlife Division.

As informed by the DFO, the number of estuarine crocodiles and the winged guests inside the park has come down this year.

While the number of estuarine crocodiles in 2012-13 was 1649, it has come down to 1644 in 2013-14.

Besides, the number of migratory birds which was 81,401 in 2012-13, has drastically come down to 68,514 in 2013-14, Swain added.
