Odisha’s Bunty-Bubli arrested for duping air hostess job aspirants of over Rs 1 cr

Bhubaneswar: A young duo operating similar to Bunty and Bubli, one of interesting and cutest on-screen fraudsters in a Bollywood movie, were nabbed in Odisha capital yesterday. They were arrested by Commissionerate police here for allegedly duping students of over Rs 1 crore by promising them of providing air hostess job.

The accused couple was identified as Amit Tripathy of Japa village under Erasama police limits of Jagatsinghpur district and Rashmita Baral, resident of Malipada village under Jankia police limits in Khurda district.

The couple was not less than Bollywood’s Abhisekh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee-starrer Bunty and Bubli. They are accused of cheating several people in Odisha capital by collecting huge amount from them. Many people have been trapped in their false promises of providing lucrative jobs in various sectors.

While Amit works as the director of Amity Institute of Aviation and Hospitality, Rashmita is an administrative officer at the same office, police said.

According to reports, the couple had started their venture near Hotel Crown in Nayapalli area three years ago. They looted over Rs 1 crore from the students showing them the dream of making them air hostesses. The students enrolled into the course by paying Rs 1.50 lakh as course fee. Later, they used to send them to Delhi for training purposes. However, after returning from training, the couple discarded the students citing reasons that they were not up to the mark. Their dubious plans did not end there. They continued to cheat them more with a promise that they will be given placement in next training keeping the hopes of the naive students alive.

Hundreds of disheartened students gheraoed the Nayapalli police station on June 6 demanding arrest of the fraud couple for duping them of over Rs 1 crore in name of providing them air hostess job in leading airlines.

Police arrested the couple based on the complaint filed by as many as 23 students. The number of complaints will rise further, Nayapalli IIC Surjyamani Pradhan said.

According sources, many influential people are behind the job scam.

Police will interrogate the couple by taking them on remand for further investigation into the case, a senior police official of Commissionerate police said.
