Odisha’s famous maritime festival ‘Bali Jatra’ kicks off

Cuttack: The eight-day Bali Jatra festival was inaugurated by Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro this evening at Gadagadia ghat on the river bed of Mahanadi.

The festival is celebrated to commemorate the maritime history of Odisha and its ancient trading links with Bali of Indonesia.

Indonesia’s ambassador to India, Sidharto R. Suryodipuro was also present at the inaugural programme of Bali Jatra. Among others, Ministers Ranendra Pratap Swain, Pratap Jena and MP Bhartruhari Mahtab were also present.

This year four pandals have been set up for cultural programmes at the fair. Colourful inaugural programmes will be held at Baishnab Pani manch.

Sona Mohapatra, Ruturaj Mohanty, Daler Mehndi, KK, Ira Mohanty and other prominent singers will enthrall visitors with their colourful performances on different days of the festival.

Pathostav, filigree gallery, exhibitions, Boita Jatra and boating will the added attractions at the festival.
