Odisha’s first jail having hospital, school inaugurated

Cuttack: Odisha’s first Model Convict Prison in Athagarh with provision for hospital, school and other facilities was today inaugurated by Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain. Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab attended the event as Guest of Honour.

The prison is first-of-its-kind in Odisha which has been constructed by the Odisha State Police Housing Corporation out of the 13th FCA grants. The jail has capacity for 500 prisoners (450 males and 50 females).

There is provision for hospital building, industry building, administrative building, school building, separate dining halls for male prisoners and female prisoners, kitchen complex, separate toilet blocks for male prisoners and female prisoners and 12 cells for hardcore prisoners.

The aforesaid projects were carried out at an expenditure of Rs 11.83 crore. This apart, the state government has sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 3.03 crore towards staff quarters.
