Odisha’s first MEMU train flagged off from Berhampur

Berhampur: In a bid to avoid heavy rush on passenger trains, Odisha’s first Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train was flagged off from Berhampur railway station here this morning.

The much awaited MEMU train service between Berhampur and Cuttack kicked off at 7.30 am from Berhampur replacing Berhampur-Cuttack-Berhampur fast passenger. The train will reach Cuttack at 11.00 am.

The train number 68434/68433 Berhampur-Cuttack-Berhampur with 12 coaches will be running between Berhampur and Cuttack six days a week as per the schedule of Berhampur-Cuttack-Berhampur fast passenger.

The MEMU train will run on Berhampur-Khordha Road route on every Saturday to avoid heavy rush and maintenance facility. The Berhampur-Khordha Road MEMU Special train will start at 9.30 am from Berhampur on every Saturday.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) will introduce the MEMU train services in other sections after reviewing the feedback from the passengers.

As the MEMU train has two engines at both ends, it will not take additional time for changing the engine, official sources said.

This is completely a new rake made by Rail Coach Factory at Kapurthala. The MEMU train was introduced for the first time on Cuttack-Berhampur route replacing Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur passenger train. The train number has been changed to 68434/68433 Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur MEMU instead of 58434/58433 Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur passenger, the ECoR said in a release.

Meanwhile, timings of Bhadrak-Cuttack passenger train has been revised. The train 58423 Bhadrak-Cuttack passenger will leave Bhadrak at 1.05 pm instead of 1.45 pm from June 23. It will arrive at Cuttack at 4.30 pm instead of 5.00 pm. The timings of the train at other nominated railway stations will also be revised accordingly.

Here’s schedule of Berhampur-Cuttack-Berhampur MEMU train

The MEMU train will run 6 days in a week i.e. from Monday to Saturday as per schedule of Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur passenger.

On Saturday, the train will run as 08434 Brahmapur-Khurda Road MEMU Special from Brahmapur to Khurda Road at 9.30 pm.

On Sunday, the train will run as 08/433 Khurda Road-Brahmapur MEMU Special from Khurda Road to Cuttack at 11.45 pm.
