Cuttack: The first state-of-the-art Aahaar Kendra of Odisha will come up at the Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT) here, an official said. The under-construction bus terminal will be inaugurated soon.
The facility, both its interior and exterior being meticulously designed and built by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), boasts an opulent ambience. With an expenditure of Rs 1.8 crore, the centrally air-conditioned Aahaar Kendra spans across 5,800 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 persons at a time.
Distinguishing itself from typical Aahaar Kendras, this establishment prioritizes the comfort of its visitors with well-arranged tables and chairs for a pleasant dining experience. Apart from the usual offerings, the center will provide breakfast and evening snacks. The food items will be prepared by Maa Tarini Self Help Group (SHG), the entity entrusted with the operational responsibilities of the center.
The Aahaar Kendra features facilities such as chairs designed for infants, child-friendly wash basins, and specially adapted basins for individuals with disabilities. The center will be equipped with amenities like refrigeration and freezer units, as well as a heater for milk boiling. In addition, a book rack showcasing various magazines and newspapers will be available for visitors. The center also incorporates 'hot plates' to ensure that food remains warm.
This apart, there will be a cloakroom for baggage storage while LED screens have been installed to entertain people during the meal timings. Cleaning of used plates will be automated through a dishwasher, while hand drying can be facilitated using dryers.
Anticipating the needs of the people, the CMC has requested authorization from the state government to keep the Aahaar Kendra operational on Sundays.
