Odisha’s ITER students fabricate All Terrain Vehicle

A team of mechanical and electrical engineering students of the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), the faculty of engineering of the SOA University in the Odisha capital, have self-fabricated an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for participation in the six-day Baja-SAE (pronounced Baha-SAE) racing competition to be held at Pithampur near Indore in Madhya Pradesh from February 19, 2015.

ATVThe competition has been organized by the Mahindra and ITER is the only engineering college in Odisha who have qualified in the virtual round to take part in the competition.

SAE is the Society for Automotive Engineers.

The students, members of the SAE-India ITER chapter, will leave for Pithampur on Thursday to participate in the competition, Prof SK Sarangi and Prof MK Sarangi, both faculty advisors and SAE India ITER chapter and Bibaswan Satpathy, student vice-chairperson, told a press conference convened to unveil the ATV, weighing around 130 kg.

Baja SAE is an inter-collegiate design competition run by the SAE. Teams of students from Universities all over the world design and build small off-road vehicles which have engines of the same specification for participation in the competition. The objective was to design, build and race off-road vehicles which can withstand the harshest elements of rough terrain.

The sponsors of the ITER team include CV Tech, Aircell, Mechem, ACE, ORW and Bikash Gases.
