Bhubaneswar: Kandhamal district has won the national-level SKOCH Award (Silver) under the aspirational district category for the year 2020, Collector Dr Brundha D said.

The district achieved the feat for its innovative projects-- Delivery Van, Bike Ambulance and Janani Auto to improve the maternal health, the collector said.

Kandhamal district administration had introduced delivery vans for pregnant women. The vehicles are equipped with all necessary facilities for the delivery of a child. It had also introduced bike ambulances and Janani autos to carry pregnant women from remote places to the nearby hospitals.

On the other hand, Nabarangpur district bagged the SKOCH Award (Platinum) under the aspirational district category for 'Farm-based scientific & technological intervention for socio-economic development'.

"I dedicate this honour & recognition to the people of Nabarangpur. Credit goes to the Science & Technology Intervention Team," Nabarangpur collector Dr Ajit Kumar Mishra said.

SKOCH Award, instituted in 2003, is the highest civilian honour in the country conferred by an independent organisation.
