Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the state’s longest high-level bridge over Mahanadi river at Gopinathpur in Cuttack district.
The 3.4 km-long bridge connecting Singhanath Pitha and Baideswar in Cuttack district has been constructed with an investment of Rs 111 crore. It will reduce distance by 45 km immensely benefitting around five lakh people.
Earlier on February 28, 2014, the CM had laid foundation stone for the bridge that has been built in English alphabet ‘T’ shape.
After inaugurating, Patnaik walked on the bridge and later joined a public meeting held on the occasion. Among others, Works Minister Prafulla Mallick, Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayini, Cuttack Rural SP B Jugal Kishore, 5T Secretary VK Pandian, Badamba MLA Debi Prasad Mishra, Banki MLA Debi Ranjan Tripathy and former MLA Pravat Tripathy were present.
Worth mentioning, the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Setu, popularly known as Trishulia bridge over Kathajodi river, was the longest bridge of state. The 2.88-km bridge that connects Barang on Bhubaneswar outskirts with Judicial Academy Chhak in Cuttack was inaugurated by the CM in July, 2017. However, it has lost its title to the newly-built bridge at Gopinathpur.
