Odisha’s Nandankan zoo to house yellow anacondas soon

The Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on the outskirts of Odisha capital will welcome a number of new species soon including the rare yellow anaconda in a major animal exchange programme, Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh told the state assembly replaying to a written question today.

As part of the exchange programme, four white peacocks – two male and two female – and two yellow anacondas will be brought from Chennai. Similarly, Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park has committed to gift a male tiger.

Besides, a red tiger will be arriving at the NZP soon, the minister mentioned in his report.

The NZP will also be shifting four reticulated pythons from Chennai – two male and two female respectively, while exchanging three hippopotamus – two female and one male including a male Siamese crocodile to Arignar Anna Zoological Park, he added.

The NZP officials have also agreed to send three bears – two male and one female- to Nawaz Wazir Ali Shah Zoological Park in Lucknow in the exchange programme, he concluded.
