Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo gets 4 new guests under animal exchange programme

Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) situated on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar got four new guests today including two Hoolock Gibbons and two Leopard Cats.

The four animals were brought from the Itanagar Biological Park in Arunachal Pradesh under an animal exchange programme. The NZP will hand over two tigers namely Rocky and Sohini to Itanagar Zoo authorities in exchange for the four new animals, a senior official at Nandankanan zoo informed.

The tiger Rocky was born on 28 March 2021 from Bijaya and Saif. Similarly, the tigress Sohini was born on 14 April 2021 from Megha and Nandan. Rocky and Sohini were staying in Nandankanan zoo for more than two years since their births, the official source further said.

Worth mentioning, Nandankanan Zoological Park is a 437-hectare (1,080-acre) zoo and botanical garden in Odisha. Established in 1960, it was opened to the public in 1979 and became the first zoo in India to join the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2009.
