Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Odisha capital will soon have a multi-storey parking lot to be built at a cost of Rs 30 crore, informed an official.

Moreover, street lighting on the Bhubaneswar-Nandankanan road will be done at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore, which will be borne by BDA and zoo authorities on 50:50 basis.

That apart, toy train and ropeway rides which have remained inoperational for quite a period of time, will start functioning from next year.

“This year already we have received administrative approval of about Rs 30 crore from the government for developing a multi-storied parking with bus stand and food court. Work will begin soon. The stretch of road between Bhubaneswar and Nandankanan which had no street lights will soon have street lights. Work on this will start very soon,” stated Forest and Environment Principal Secretary Suresh Mohapatra speaking to reporters after inaugurating a new enclosure for Himalayan Black Bear on the occasion of the 58th foundation day of Nandankanan Zoological Park.

Notably, Nandankanan Zoological Park was dedicated to the public on 29 December 1960.
