Bhubaneswar: Noted freedom fighter Dayanidhi Nayak today passed away. He was 95.

He breathed his last at 7.30 am today, just four days before the celebration of 73rd Independence Day. The veteran was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bargarh for age related ailments. He was ailing for past one month. He is survived by his only daughter Swarupa Nayak.

Nayak was among 32 foot soldiers from Panimara, the village of "Freedom Fighters" in Bargarh district. He had joined the Quit India Movement and counted arrest.

Inspired by Gandhian ideology and philosophy, the veteran had sacrificed all his personal comforts and pleasure to achieve freedom.

His dedication and sacrifice will keep him immortal in pages of Indian history.
