Odisha’s Padampur likely to get district status soon

Padampur: A high-level site selection committee led by Sambalpur Revenue Divisional Commissioner (North) Dr. Suresh Chandra Dalai visited Padampur town and identified three different lands for the construction of a Collectorate for the proposed ‘Padampur district’, today.

“The committee will submit its report to the Odisha Government, based on which the government will take a final call about site selection for the proposed Padampur Collectorate. We have identified three lands measuring around five acres each. Preferably, we are looking for government land and the three sites visited so far seem to be ideal ones for the office,” RDC (North) said mediapersons.

The site selection committee comprised the RDC (North), Bargarh District Collector and Additional Collector, Padampur Sub-Collector, R&B engineer, local tehsildar, and several others.

“We are immensely happy to know that the official process has begun. It has been our demand since long ago. We will get several additional benefits once Padampur becomes a district,” some locals said.

It is pertinent to mention, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced during Padampur bypoll that the Assembly constituency segment will be accorded the status of a district in the future. The total area of the proposed district will be decided at a later stage and its boundary will be finalised.
