Bhubaneswar: Odisha's Padmini Rout today brought laurels to the state as she won the Asian Continental Chess Championship-2018 in Philippines.
The International Master and Woman Grandmaster won the gold medal by securing 7 points from a total of 9 rounds in the tournament. Rout also qualified for the Women's World Chess Championship with the victory.
A recipient of the Biju Patnaik Sports Award and the Ekalavya Award, the ace chess player had won the World Under-14 Girls' Championship in 2008 and the Indian Women's Championship for the last four years (2014,2015,2016,2017).
