Odisha’s Puri decked up to welcome devotees on New Year’s Day

Puri: Expecting a large footfall on New Year’s Day the Puri district administration has made elaborate arrangements for devotees visiting Shree Jagannath temple in the pilgrim town. The temple’s surroundings, ‘Bada Danda’ and newly built shed for visitors have been well decorated.

To ensure disciplined darshan, the administration has taken adequate measures. Speakers have been installed at the shed near the temple to air devotional songs for devotees.

The administration has deployed 60 platoons of police force and 800 police officers to maintain law and order in the pilgrim town. Sources said tight security will remain in force from Monday evening till 2 pm on Thursday. This apart, police personnel will keep a round-the-clock vigil on railway station, Bada danda and sea beach.

As per reports, ‘Pahuda’ ritual will be carried out at Shree Jagannath temple early on December 31 night whereas the temple doors will open at 12 am on January 1. Mangala Alati ritual will be performed at 1 am followed by ‘rosahoma’ at 4 am. ‘Mailama’ and ‘Tadapa lagi’ at 4.30 am, Abakasha at 5.15 am. Priests will perform Surjya Puja at 5.45 am, ‘dwarapala puja’ at 6 am and ‘Besha sesha’ at 6.30 am.

‘Madhyana Dhupa’ will be performed from 11 am till 12.30 pm on January 1.

Sources said the temple administration has decided to provide ‘Mahaprasad’ by 11 am.
