New Delhi: A team of Biju Janata Dal members led by its president Naveen Patnaik today met President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan here.

The delegation submitted a memorandum on MSP hike of paddy to Kovind.

"Odisha demands hike in MSP for paddy to Rs 2,930 per quintal to boost farmers' income. Centre should honour its commitment to implement Swaminathan Committee's recommendation. Our fight for the hike in MSP will continue," Naveen Patnaik tweeted.

Earlier in the day, the BJD organized a mega farmers’ rally at Talkatora Stadium here where the the ruling party took potshots at the NDA government in the Centre for overlooking the interests of the farmers.

The Opposition Congress, however, criticised the ruling party for the mega rally terming it a fun trip.

"I didn't see a single farmer in the rally. They were all the MLAs, MPs and the BJD members. May be a handful might be there in the last rows. This is a fun trip for the BJD members," OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik said.
